Guide

What is an Open Graph image?

When you share a link on WhatsApp, Facebook, X or LinkedIn, the app reads the page's Open Graph meta tags and shows a card with an image, a title and a description. The image comes from the og:image tag. Without one, your link shows as plain text or with a random picture from the page.

Tips for a link preview that gets clicks

  • Keep the subject in the middle. Some apps crop the edges or show the image small, so text and faces near the border get cut.
  • Use a real photo of your product or store rather than a logo on white; it stands out in a busy chat or feed.
  • Write a short title. Around 60 characters shows in full on every platform.
  • Use the full https URL in og:image, not a relative path like /og-image.jpg.
  • Finish the job with a favicon so your tab and bookmarks look as good as your shared links.

WhatsApp skips preview images over about 300 KB, and many photos are bigger. This tool always saves a JPEG under 300 KB. Also check that the image URL is public and starts with https.

Upload og-image.jpg to your site (most builders have a "social image" or "share image" setting), then paste the meta tags into the <head> of the page. Use the full https URL of the image in og:image.
