How small should a product photo be?

  • Under 200 KB for product photos and blog images.
  • Under 500 KB for full-width hero banners.
  • Resize before you compress. A 6000 px camera photo shown at 1200 px wastes most of its bytes; the image resizer fixes that first.

PNGs with few colours, such as logos, are often already small. Photos saved as PNG shrink the most, and converting them to WebP or JPG shrinks them even more.
