How the PayPal fee is calculated

Fee = amount × rate + fixed fee. On a $100 PayPal Checkout payment that is $3.49 + $0.49 = $3.98, so you receive $96.02.

PayPal vs. Stripe

For card payments, Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30 is usually cheaper than PayPal Checkout, mostly because of the lower fixed fee. Compare them with the Stripe fee calculator. Many stores offer both: PayPal for shoppers who prefer it, cards through Stripe for everyone else.
