Worked example

A $25 item with $5 shipping: $0.20 listing + $1.95 transaction + $1.15 processing = $3.30 in fees, so you receive $26.70. If the item cost you $8, you keep $18.70.

When your own store makes sense

Etsy brings buyers, and its fees pay for that. Repeat customers don't need finding again: selling to them from your own store skips the transaction and ad fees. Check the difference per product with the profit margin calculator.

Frequently asked questions

A $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 in the US. Together that is usually around 10% to 13% of the order.

When a sale comes from an Etsy ad on another site, Etsy charges 15% of the order, or 12% for shops that made over $10,000 in the last year. The fee is capped at $100 per order.

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing both apply to the shipping you charge, not only the item price.

Selling from your own store means no marketplace transaction fee or ad fee on your sales: you pay your plan and card processing. Many Etsy sellers keep Etsy for discovery and send repeat customers to their own store.
